Lucius Gets Huge Resignation Uproar from the UTM Cadres

UTM cadres are calling on the party campaign director, Lucius Banda to step down following the dismal performance of the party in all by-elections including the just gone by local government elections in Chitipa, Karonga and Balaka.

In last Wednesday’s by-elections, Malawi Congress Party scooped two wards, in Chitipa and Karonga while the Balaka ward went to the UDF while the Democratic Progressive Party and UTM candidates failed miserably in the race.

Following the poor show, some vocal UTM members have taken up in various social media platforms to force party campaign director, Lucius Banda to step down, accusing him of being preoccupied with his music career rather than campaign activities of the party.

One Steve Makhalira says through the Facebook post that since Banda was elected to the position, he has never campaigned for the party.

“UTM is failing to taste victory because we have an incompetent campaign director,” he says.

Another UTM social media activist Aubi Frackson had no any kind word for Banda, asking him to resign and concentrate on his music career.

Chisepo Phiri, another UTM diehard said it was surprising that the party failed to field a candidate in Balaka because the party could not find one even after dangling huge sums of money, despite the fact that Banda is also a resident of the district.

Meanwhile, the Young Politicians Union (YPU) – Mzuzu Chapter has commended the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) for winning people’s confidence despite some economic challenges affecting people’s welfare.

Commenting on last Wednesday’s local government by-elections held in some wards across the country,  YPU chairperson, Mervin Nxumayo commended the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) for handling the elections prudently despite voter apathy.

“Let’s give credit to the MCP which is ruling the country despite an alliance of political parties claiming to be in government, it is no longer a secret that no any other party appeared on MEC ballot paper during the 2021 presidential election which is also the same case when we want to criticise on how government affairs are being managed,”  Nxumayo said.

However, the YPU cautioned the MCP not to relax stating that Malawians are still having huge expectations on the promises it made during the general election campaign with that of job creation emerging high among them all.

Several political commentators have describe the just gone by local government by elections as a lost hope for the DPP, AFORD and UTM who are struggling to win any election even in areas believed to be their strongholds.

Ironically, UTM and DPP have over the years been claiming that the Northern region is their first and second stronghold respectively.

However, the UTM top brass has denied to comment on the matter.
