Malawi Heritage UK proudly presents 2022 Malawi Heritage Awards of Excellence

Malawians living in the United Kingdom have organised the Heritage Awards of Excellence presentation ceremony on Saturday, 29th October 2022 aimed at recognisin deserving individuals that are helping to make the community better through positive contribution.

The GMP Social Club, Hough End Centre, Mouldeth Road W, Chorlton-Cum-Hardy, M21 75X in the City of Manchester have become synonymous in providing a conducive environment to host such Heritage Awards of Excellence ceremonies for both the Malawi community and other nationals.

This is the second time the ceremony is being held after another one that was held last year (2021) which also recognised some deserving Màlawians who contributed significantly to Malawi’s socio-economic development.

Speaking to Malawi Daily Telegraph the founder of the event, Allan Mandindi Banda said the Malawi Heritage Awards of Excellence presentation ceremony is aimed at recognising the great sons and daughters of the global village whose contribution to the society cannot just go by without being noticed in a special way.

“The awards recognise the tremendous contribution that people in the diaspora are making to their communities here in the United Kingdom and abroad in their respective countries especially people from all walks of life as nominations are open to everyone.

“We aim to bring people together and shine the light where good things are happening the annual event is also a great opportunity to promote Malawi and establish great relations as it attracts local authority leaders,” Mandindi said.

He further disclosed that last year’s awards had the Lord Mayor of Manchester Tommy Judge and Lady mayoress Carol Judge, the deputy Lord Mayor Donna Ludford, Sean McHale for Openshaw and Prof Dr Erinma Bell the Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester who represented the Queen and other local leaders.

Mandindi who is also the chairperson for the Malawi Heritage-UK further stated that during the inaugural event last year, those in the community and did tremendous works mainly during the novel Covid-19 pandemic were recognised at the red carpet ceremony.

The Organising committee chairperson for this year’s Malawi Heritage Awards of Excellence ceremony, Julie Bumjee said both Malawians and non-Malawians will this year focus on celebrating, recognising and appreciating the ‘community stars’, people that empower and make a positive impact on others in various categories.

“This banquet is the second to be held since its introduction in November last year when we awarded those that did tremendous work during the novel Covid pandemic, it will have a few special guests in attendance, and there will be lots to eat and drink and a range of entertainment to spice up the evening,” said Bumjee

The Onjezani Kenani group COVID-19 Response Private Çitizen’s Initiative, Malawi-UK Nurses Association, and Malawi-UK Military Community who assisted people in Malawi with money and resources were in a special way decorated with awards for their outstanding roles during the trying moments emanating from the devastating global pandemic.
