Government To Allocate Local Resources Fighting Tuberculosis

Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandondo Chiponda, has urged Malawians to continue seeking Tuberculosis (TB) clinical medical attention as government is committed to inject domestic resources in the quest to suppress TB transmission.

She was speaking at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe, on Thursday during the World TB Day, which was held under the theme ‘Invest to end TB, save lives.’

“Government is very grateful with the support we are getting from our partners and donors in the health sector. However, government will from the 2022/2023 National Budget start allocating domestic resources to complement the donors’ efforts,” she said.

She, then, commended the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Elimination Programme (NTLEP) staff for its commitment in dealing with TB in the country.

WHO Acting Country Representative, Janet Kayita, emphasised on the urgent need to invest necessary resources to reinvigorate the fight against TB and realise the commitments to end TB by global leaders.

A press statement released by the Ministry of Health, says Covid-19 pandemic has negatively impacted on provisions of TB services since it started.
