Police Nab Chunara For Cement-gate Scandal
Police in Lilongwe has on Monday arrested Ahmed Mohammed Chunara in connection with the ongoing cement-gate case in which five people are accused of abusing former president Peter Mutharika’s tax payer identification number (TPIN) to import cement worth K5 billion duty-free
Impeccable sources at both National Police headquarters and office of Director of Public Prosecutions ( DPP) have confirmed this to local media.
Chunara becomes the fifth suspect to be arrested in connection with the case, others are; former president Peter Mutharika’s bodyguard Norman Chisale, former director of State residences, Peter Mukhito and Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) deputy commissioner general, Roza Mbilizi.
The arrest comes a day before the suspects are expected to appear in court for plea taking.
