A painful 90th minute goal scored by Chkondi Mvula for Blue Eagles FC silenced all the vocal Moyale Barracks supporters on Saturday at the Mzuzu stadium.
Eagles looked very lethal right from the first whistle but failed to utilize any of the numerous scoring opportunities they created in the opening minutes of play to get a goal.
Simeon Harawa in goals for the 3rd Battalion military outfit was lucky to escape an early scare from Eagles when Schumarker Kuwali’s weak shot hit the crossbar in the 7th minute before the ball got cleared into safety.
In the 45th minute Sankhani Mkandawire cleared the ball off the goal line from Moyale’s fierce counter attack when Lloyd Njaliwa shot at goal with Brighton Munthali beaten clean but the former Nyasa Big Bullets defender was at the right position at the right time to the ball.
Both sides made several changes in the second half but the coming in of a nimble left-foòted, Chikondi Mvula for Eagles replacing Laurent Banda in the dying moments of the game was the precious tactical decision the Blue Eagles coach, Eliya Kananji made.
During post-match interviews the Blue Eagles mentor, Eliya Kananji conceded that his team is still disjointed despite managing to narrowly win by a goal to nil in Saturday’s encounter.
“We are still working on coordination but with time am sure we are going to jell and play as a team otherwise Moyale is always a tough side mainly when playing away like this,” Kananji said.
His counterpart, Prichard Mwansa for Moyale Barracks said his charges did not utilize the chances despite having found several scoring opportunities in both halves.
“Our opponents knocked on our door on several occasions but we managed to contain that pressure, we had our own chances but we failed to capitalize on them,” lamented Mwansa.
During the match Moyale Barracks team manager, Victor Phiri was given marching orders by female first grade referee, Rose Zimba for unsporting behaviour.
With a win on Saturday and previous wins over Mafco and Rumphi United the policemen from Area-30 in the Capital City have amassed maximum nine points and they are currently toping the TNM Super League table .
