MCP Endorse Chakwera For 2025 Presidency

Barely a week after the Malawi Congress Party Second Vice President Harry Mlekanjala Mkandawire repeated his sentiment that come 2025 President Lazarus Chakwera will be the torchbearer for MCP, just a day thereafter Independent legislator for Lilongwe Nsinja North, Binton Kutsaira (formerly of DPP) echoed the sentiments, the party’s First Deputy Secretary General, Catherine Gotani Hara has emphasized that the party’s torchbearer for 2025 is Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who is current party’s President and State President of Malawi.

Presenting her speech during the fundraising dinner held in Lilongwe to raise funds for running the affairs of the party on Saturday evening, May 6,2022, Hara said as the party’s Secretariat, they are geared and have fastened their belts in making sure the current President for the party continues serving in his capacity as its torchbearer come 2025.

“For the Bible says, ‘Whatsoever you shall bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven.’ We are here binding that come 2025 our President is Chakwera, and what we have bound here, no-one shall loosen it, for it has been fully bound.” Said Hara while receiving applause from the audience.

She further said, as a party, MCP believes in generating its own resources through various activities and that it has been its trend ever since, adding that the party is there to stay in government, for God is by its side. But she was quick to say for this to happen there is a need for its members to hold hands and move together as a unit by believing in themselves.

“We must be the first to believe in ourselves as members of the party. God already fought for us. The way we have started, let’s continue the same way, and as Secretariat, we will continue to appeal for your support towards making our party even more strong than ever.

As our President said; ‘Nothing for Us without US’, let us keep it in mind. But our office is ready, I hope you have fasten your belts too, for what we want is that in 2025 President Chakwera wins again.” emphasized Gotani Hara amidst ululation, hands clapping and shouts._”Komveshoni tachita lero” (Convention has been done today).

MCP organized the fundraising which was dubbed “Tambala Night Dinner & Dance” and was held at Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) in the capital Lilongwe.

However, in his remarks President Lazarus Chakwèra did not ulter any word commenting about his presidential come back in 2025.
