Chakwera Dates Nuveen Agricultural Investors
President Lazarus Chakwera on Monday addressed the Nuveen Agricultural Investors at the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) in New York, USA, describing Malawi as the best agricultural investment destination.
Chakwera said expecting Ukraine, which is at war with Russia, to be the world’s food basket, was an indictment of the world’s failure to recognize Africa’s potential to play the same roll.
He, therefore, challenged the audience to invest in Africa where there is vast land and fresh water that is available throughout the year.
“I invite you to start with Malawi, home to one of the largest fresh water lakes in the world,” said Chakwera.
Adding “Let’s make this dream a reality so that when the kind of nightmares we are seeing unfold in Eastern Europe happen, we are not all left at the mercy of aggressors, let’s create the world’s greatest food reserve in Malawi together”.
The Malawi leader then assured the potential investors of his commitment to easing the setting up of business operations in Malawi, reduce red tape, bureaucracy and stop corruption that has made doing business difficult in the past.
President Chakwera who is in the US is to among others expected to address the United Nations General Assembly on September 22, 2022.
