RDP Intensifies Poverty Eradication Interventions
Rural Development Partners (RDP) is a non-profit making organization offering its services to various communities towards eradicating poverty in line with Malawi Vision 2063 and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
It is for this reason that the organization has been working on a number of thematic areas which include : agriculture and food security, Early Childhood Development, menstrual hygiene management, water sanitation and hygiene, women and youth empowerment and also environmental conservation.
For instance on Tuesday 29th November 2022, a total of ten (10) women from six villages around Choma area in Mzimba district graduated from a six months intensive] training which will go along way in uplifting their livelihoods while also training others what they have learned.
On this initiative, RDP’s Executive Director, Daniel Nyirenda says he always challenges the women to make use of the skills and knowledge acquired during the trainings towards achieving socioeconomic independence of their households and the community at large.
“We at RDP we are not only glad but also very thankful that these women have taken the course seriously and have graduated, they will now be able to sustain their livelihoods through sewing,” Nyirenda said.
However, the RDP director expressed dismay with the tendency of some irresponsible village champions who have been going around discouraging others from taking part in the organizations preparation for this year’s tree planting exercise which has been assisted with financial assistance from TSN Groen of Netherlands.
“We are planning to plant a total of 300 000 tree seedlings in this year’s tree planting exercise at Kacheche, Choma and Nthwalo having prepared more than 450 000 tree seedlings at our Lupaso RDP Nursery,” he added.
One of the graduates, Jane Shaba could not hide her excitement stating that the focus is now on integration and approaching the community with an entrepreneurial mentality for the betterment of their households.
On his part, Group Village Headman Chidambo Kamanga expressed gratitude with RDP interventions in bringing sustainable developments which he said are the basis for meaningful poverty alleviation at all levels in the society.
“I will summon all the chiefs to come to a round table meeting and take every opportunity seriously for the development of the area,” said the chief.
RDP has this year alone spent K3 million towards facilitation of the tailoring trading which also includes the procurement of sewing machines and provision of starter packs to the graduates with financial assistance from Love a Village Mission of Canada and Kimon of Netherlands.
