The old adage of ‘charity begins at home’ could not sound any truer for UK Armed Forces of Malawi Heritage known as the Malawi UK Military Community (MUMCo) as the group looks to make a donation of clothes to flood victims in Malawi.

The consignment which includes women’s and children’s clothes as well as other items is due to leave the UK mid February 2023 and is expected to reach Malawi in March.

Commenting on the initiative MUMCo Spokesperson Eve Nyirenda indicated that as a community they aim to keep this spirit of giving as part of their group’s DNA as they go forward, the true Malawian way.

Loading the clothes at 19 Regiment Royal Artillery where the consignment was stored, community members were visibly excited to be part of the initiative.

“We as a community would like to thank everyone who has supported us with this effort, the support we have received from veterans, serving soldiers and their families in the UK is overwhelming.

“We are certain that this donation will continue to inspire more of these gestures and a sense of togetherness as we continue to look out for one another as a Nation”. Said Rodney Mtonga, one of MUMCo Members present during loading event.

In 2022 MUMCo conducted a number of activities including taking part in collecting donations amounting to £1 million for the Royal British Legion an organization that assists soldiers and veterans.

Another remarkable event in the year just gone by was MUMCo hosting the Malawi National Team at a barbecue held in Birmingham where the Malawi Queens Team was taking part at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

MUMCo is a network of British Armed Forces personnel of Malawi heritage, which conducts events for the benefit of communities in the UK and Malawi
