Think-tank Ponders On Kabambe’s Untimely DPP Presidential Ambitions
Former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) director of research and training who is also a National Governing Council (NGC) member, Ken Msonda says the party’s leadership continues to be biased towards some party presidential aspirants despite issuing a decree barring anyone from engaging in campaigns.
Msonda was referring to the former Reserve Bank governor, Dalitso Kabambe whom he said is violating the order issued by the party secretariat two months ago barring any party presidential aspirant from engaging in campaigns instead of rebuilding the party which was getting fragmented.
Speaking to Malawi Daily Telegraph on Saturday Msonda cited Kabambe’s recent remarks made in Luchenza that he is ready to turn around the country’s current economic crisis into prosperity given the presidential vote in 2025 after a node from party delegates at the DPP July elective party conference.
“That is exactly what people are getting surprised about, barring Honourable Ken Msonda from interacting with DPP delegates in the North, not even the North Executive Committee, what Hon Kabambe and Mr. Alfred Gangata have done, meeting DPP convention delegates in the South at Luchenza is a clear demonstration that they are scared of Malawi’s Political Foot Soldier, Hon Ken Msonda’s political move to contest on the position of Vice president North,” Msonda said.
Msonda also popularly known as ‘think-tank’ further stated that the most worrisome part where democracy is put to test is the involvement of the party’s administrative secretary, Francis Mphepo whom he said is openly supporting Dr. Dalitso Kabambe who has taken on board Ephraim Mganda Chiumia as his Vice president for the North and Alfred Gangata for the Central region.
A couple of weeks ago the DPP Secretary, Francis Mphepo and the party spokesperson, Shadreck Namomba issued a circular stopping all the party’s presidential aspirants from meeting the convention delegates saying that will only fragment the party further hence becoming weak during the 2025 local government, Parliamentary and presidential polls.
During the Luchenza rally, Kabambe made a donation of K25 million to the delegates to take care of their needs within their established structures in the region.
