Zikhale Warns Politicians Who Sponsor Criminal Activities
The Homeland Security minister, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma has accused some politicians to be aiding criminal activities taking place in the country.
The newly appointed Homeland Security Minister was commenting on the recent exchange of gunfire between police and armed robbers in the city of Blantyre.
Speaking with Malawi Daily Telegraph in Mzuzu on Sunday, Zikhale sent a strong warning to politicians whom he said are busy sponsoring thugs in order to discredit Tonse Alliance government for the security lapses in some parts of the country.
“Let me warn those sponsoring thugs who are terrorizing people in the country more particularly politicians that the Parliamentary immunity will not save you, I will smoke you out. Be warned that there is a new serious sheriff in town,” warned Zikhale.
Meanwhile, Police in Blantyre have arrested four more suspects in connection to last week’s Chichiri Shopping Mall failed heist and other robberies that have been happening in Blantyre and surrounding districts.
The fresh arrests have brought the number of suspects to 10.
South West Region Police Publicist, Beatrice Mikuwa, told the Malawi Daily Telegraph Online Publications that among those that have been arrested is a 38-year-old ex-Malawi Defence Force Soldier, Daniel Yohane who was arrested at Mapanga Malawi Prison Training School in Blantyre where he was being trained as a prison warder.
Mikuwa said the arrests follow investigations and information police received from the other suspects.
All the suspects have since been formerly charged with the offence of attempted robbery and being found in possession of offensive weapons.
