Wanderers And Bullets In Charity Shield Grudge Match
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers who are the 2022 Airtel Top-8 winners will take on the defending TNM Super League Champions and FDH Cup holders FCB Nyasa Bullets in the 6th FAM Charity Shield edition at the giant, Bingu National Stadium in the Capital city, Lilongwe on a super Sunday.
Nyasa Big Bullets have won all the five editions of the FAM Charity Shields since its inception back in 2016 beating both Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Silver Strikers twice each as well as Kamuzu Barracks once
But some soccer ardents have warned that it won’t be easy for Bullets to beat the Nomads who were among the busiest teams in the just ended transfer window, having brought in top players like Christopher Kumwembe, Gaddie Chirwa, Mphatso Kamanga and Lawrence Chaziya who are set to play their first official match in Wanderers colours this Sunday.
On the other hand the league champions are set to start life without last year’s top goalscorer Babatunde Adepoju and Midfielder Chimwemwe Idana who left the club to Join Venda Academy and Silver Strikers respectively.
However, the People’s Team have replaced the two with Nigerian striker Chinedu Okafor and returnee Mike Mkwate who are likely to feature this time around and provide the much needed cover for the two.
Apart from Okafor and Mkwate the people’s team have also signed two Kenyan defenders Clyde Senaji and Collins Odhiambo Okumu who are expected to play in their official match in Malawi.
The most exciting moment may come if the game will end all square after 90 minutes because it will go straight into penalty shoot-out , which will be new to this competition as in the past five times Bullets have won it in regulation time.
For the soccer enthusiasts to watch this year’s charity shield game they have to pay a little more since the soccer governing body, FAM has set different charges for the advance standard ticket going at K2000 while K3000 will be match day charges and the VIP advance ticket is going at K8000 and K10,000 on Match day where as the corporate box ticket is at K200,000 and will be K100,000 more on match day.
The competition is sponsored by NBS Bank to the tune of K20million and the money to be raised will be channeled to assist people affected by the Tragedy Cyclone Freddy which has devastated most parts of Southern Malawi.
