Engineer Mumba Mesmerizes Mzuni Students With Powerful Public Lecture

A chattered engineer, Vitumbiko Augeans Zasamula Mumba on Friday evening held the first public lecture this year at Mzuzu University-MZUNI which has left many students mesmerized.

Upon ascending onto the podium of the jam-packed University’s Auditorium Hall, the charismatic 40 year old, Engineer Mumba presented a powerful topic “A practical approach to discovering personal leadership style”.

In the begining of delivering the lecture, Engineer Mumba could not take even minutes to arouse the motivation of the audience when he said “tonight’s public lecture is not about you experiencing but discovering who exactly you’re.”

“You need to discover who you are. You also need to deal with self-deception and begin to value who you are.”

Contextualizing his presentation on “Monkey see, Monkey Do principle in leadership” whereby people always do what they do and not what they say the engineering expert who also ventures into pharmaceuticals could drew the audience in focusing on real life experiences in shaping ones leadership style.

Earlier on, it was anticipated that only one hundred (100) people will attend the Public Lecture but only for Mumba to find himself taking through lecturing more than thousand people who filled the hall while multitudes also followed him through live streaming online.

In a a test of leadership, Engineer Mumba distributed question papers to the students present to respond to the question, “Can you follow yourself if you are a leader?”

In concluding his powerful session, Mumba whom in dynamism makes the ends meet by among others running a pharmaceutical firm, educational institutions and his practical engineering made a reference quoted from one of the world’s greatest philosophers and renowned writer, Peter Koestenbaun “Life without greatness is shabby and disregarding, it leads to guilt-guilt because we are responsible for our unfulfilled potential”

Speaking to this publication after his presentation, Mumba said having a substantial period working with university students he decided to share with MZUNI students what will fill the leadership vacuum among youths preparing to take up leadership roles in various spheres of life.

“Apart from being a staunch Malawi Congress Party member I have assisted the University students including the MCP youth Wing in various ways so I simply decided to share with them what I believe has added value mainly in the way they perceive themselves and others,” Mumba said.

Veteran governance and human rights activist, Undule Mwakasungula praised Mumba for the powerful sermon which he said will go a long way in nurturing those who had gaps in the area of leadership be it young or old.

“Our youth and even those people who matter needs to have such mental strength instead of living in deceit about their leadership capabilities,” Mwakasungula said.

Notable figures who graced the occasion include: Mzuzu City Councils Chief Executive Officer, Gomezgani Nyasulu, Reverend Macbawman Aston Twipute Mulagha from the Church and Society Program, the Executive Director for Governance and Human Rights Advocate, Undule Mwakasungula, MCP National Executive Committee (NEC) members and the Law Society of Malawi.

To his credit, Mumba holds a Masters of Business Management and Administration (MBA) Degree from the University of Stellenbosch Business School of Cape Town in South Africa and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic, University of Malawi now Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS).
