Three Institution Signs MOU Enhancing Collaboration

Lilongwe, Malawi: The Malawi School of Government and its partners, Office of the Ombudsman and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) whose main purpose is to enhance collaboration in matters of mutual interest aimed at promoting ethical conduct and governance through training, research and advisory services.

The ceremony has its history in a long-standing partnership between ACB and Malawi School of Government-Mpemba Campus, the then Staff Development Institute (SDI).

The partnership between the Anti-Corruption Bureau and SDI culminated into an MOU which was signed on 12th June, 2014 in Blantyre whose main focus was to collaborate in raising the public awareness in fighting corruption; undertake joint capacity building initiatives and; to promote information sharing between ACB and SDI on courses that require anti-corruption components.

What started as a partnership between SDI and ACB has culminated into a collaboration among 3 Institutions who have focused on their commonalities to promote an integrity approach towards corruption.

The focus of the MOU had shifted from awareness to a more nuanced set of activities that relate with MSG ACT 33 of 2022 whose ultimate aim is to inform public policy; promote national development, patriotism, honesty, hard work, transparency and accountability in both public and private sectors.

Speaking at the signing in ceremony, the Director General of MSG Dr. Asiyati Chiweza said ”one immediate area where the MOU will be applied is with regard to the strengthening of the work of Institutional Integrity Committees in promoting the integrity Approach to Reducing Corruption”.

The event was graced by Ms Hawa Ndilowe former SPC.

The MOU was signed by MSG Director General, Dr Asiyati Chiweza, ACB Director General, Ms. Martha Chizuma, and the Ombusdman, Hon. Grace Malera.
