Mzuzu Holds The First Ever City Summit

The Mzuzu City Council will hold the first ever City Summit slated for 26th July this year which is the brainchild of the Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture aimed at providing an exclusive platform for government leaders, industry experts, city residents and non-governmental organizations to address livable and sustainable city challenges.

The summit is aimed at coming up with viable and sustainable solutions in the improvement of service delivery through realization of the gaps and jointly create a progressing City Council that will be able to do things differently by complementing the existing efforts to achieve the quick wins, in the transformation of Mzuzu City.

According to the organizing Chairperson for the summit, Lieutenant Colonel Yoram Ngwira (retired) the forthcoming Summit is geared to co-create city solutions to spur social and economic development and accelerate the Malawi Implementation Plan (MIP 1) for the Malawi 2063.

“The indaba will take a holistic approach to matters of the Mzuzu City with emphasis on Waste Management service delivery, trading Practices, enhancement of Revenue generation, transport and policy issues,” states Colonel Ngwira.

He further stated that it is anticipated to have about 200 delegates from various institutions at national, regional, and local level hence the Council is working on a budget of K12 870 000.00.

Considering the relevance of the summit and other stakeholders involved the activity will be live on some local radio stations, and other social outlets hence requesting for support towards the organization and the management of the first ever, Mzuzu City Summit.

“We are appealing for partnership with well-wishers in the implementation of this city summit which can be in form of financial and material support towards the attached budget items,” reads the communique in part.

The summit will be held under the theme “Urban Renewal and Economic Growth” focusing on a number of thematic areas which includes: waste management, vending, local revenue generation, urban transportation and connectivity.
