High Court Dismisses Chilumpha’s Treason Case
The High Court in Blantyre has finally discharged a treason case involving former vice president Dr Cassim Chilumpha, who was accused of conspiring to topple the then-president, the late Bingu Wa Mutharika.
Dr. Chilumpha asked the court to discharge the case, which started in 2006 because it had taken too long to be completed.
High Court Judge Ruth Chinangwa discharged the embattled former vice president citing lack of substantial evidence and failure by the state to properly present the case.
In a related development, Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima’s corruption case will resume tomorrow, (Thursday) in the Financial Crimes Court in Lilongwe.
Chilima’s case was adjourned following the High Court Judge Justice Kapindu’s order to the Malawi Defence Force to furnish the Court with documents containing evidence relating him to the corrupt practices connected with the UK-based, Malawian-born business tycoon Zuneth Sattar
