Nyamilandu Meets Infantino At FIFA Paris Bureau
FIFA President Gianni Infantino met the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Walter Nyamilandu Manda at FIFA’s Paris Bureau where they discussed the highly encouraging development of youth and women’s football in African countries.
This high-level meeting took place at a time when FIFA Forward funds have greatly assisted in renovations of the FAM technical centre in Blantyre which is giving national teams improved facilities in preparations for games.
Nyamilandu sighted the victory of the women’s national team in the COSAFA Women’s Championship last weekend which he said is the first of its kind following on the back of their runners-up finish two years earlier, which shows how ‘the Scorchers’ in particular have benefitted.
Speaking in an interview with Malawi Daily Telegraph from Paris, Nyamilandu said many in the Scorchers team are in their ‘teens, as such youth development in particular is a major focus which having ploughed Forward funding into grassroots football.
He also gave hope on the Luwinga Technical Development Soccer academy in Mzuzu which is currently undergoing phased improvements as a priority in the discussions with the FIFA boss.
“While Malawi is one of 100 member associations to have launched the FIFA Football for Schools Project aimed at giving children skills for life as well as football hence the Luwinga Soccer Academy being high among priorities,” Nyamilandu said.
