DPP Secretary General Calls For NGC Meeting

Main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) secretary general Grezelder Jeffrey has called for a party’s National Governing Council meeting to be held on Wednesday, December 6.

Jeffrey announced the news during a press briefing held at Golden Peacock Hotel in the capital city, Lilongwe.

According to Jeffrey, the delegates at the meeting, will among others agree on the date to hold the long-awaited party’s elective convention.

Jeffrey who said has already informed the party’s president Peter Mutharika in writing on the impending NGC meeting, said the decision to have the meeting follows a High Court order of 29th September to hold a convention within 90 days.

Initially, the former governing DPP was supposed to hold a convention mid this year but the conference was pushed to next year.

But in a separate interview the DPP Spokesperson, Shaddreck Namalomba described the SG’s call for the NGC meeting as unwarranted and hold no substance since it is only the party president, Peter Mutharika who has such powers.

Namalomba then said the letter which Jeffrey wrote was addressed to the State President, Lazarus Chakwera and not the DPP leader.
