Finally, Jeffrey Cornered Mutharika, High Court Rejects Injunction Application

In a dramatic twist of events, pressure is now mounting on the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader, Peter Mutharika and his cronies following the High Court’s ruling denying them to obtain an injunction stopping the National Governing Council (NGC) called by the party secretary General, Grezelda Jeffrey.

Reports reached this Publication from the High Court in Lilongwe on tuesday indicate that Judge Justice Simeon Mdeza has rejected an application by opposition DPP’s Interested Parties in the name of Hon. Shadreck Namalomba, Hon. Chipi Mpinganjira, Hon. Jean Mathanga and Hon Thomson Kamangira who wanted the court to stop the December 6, NGC meeting called by the party’s secretary general.

This means the Wednesday meeting will proceed as planned by the Secretary General which among others seeks to set the date for the party’s elective convention.

A couple of weeks ago, the High Court made a ruling ordering the party to hold it’s elective convention within 90 days, a decision which is meeting strong resistance from Mutharika and his closest associates.
