President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has described Rev. John Chilembwe as great son of Malawi.

On Monday, the malawi leader led the nation in remembering the Providence Industrial Mission (PIM) leader who started tje struggle against the minority white’s impunity in Nyasaland now Malawi.

Chakwera said for yet another year, people gathered at the Mbombwe Mission of the PIM to commemorate the country’s pioneering freedom fighter, Reverend John Chilembwe, whose brave acts paved the way for the emancipation of natives.

“To this day, Reverend Chilembwe remains an indelible symbol of national sacrifice and patriotism. May his martyrdom be a mirror from which today’s Malawi should shape its development aspirations,” Chakwera said

Chakwera then renamed Phalombe District Hospital to John Chilembwe Hospital as way of fully entrenching his name in the affairs of Malawi for generations to come.
