The State Cornered In Chilima Trial
As the corruption case for Vice President, Saulos Chilima continues High Court Judge, Redson Kapindu has on Friday ordered the State to file the documents (evidence) being requested by the defence counsel to the Court by Monday, 22 January 2024 before 10 am.
Making a ruling, the Judge ordered that the State must do this for him to appreciate the evidence and make a decision on whether it is indeed confidential or not.
He states that, the State file the evidence directly to his chambers before making another determination on the matter.
Judge Kapindu made an order, taking into consideration that matters of national security are sensitive and complex and therefore needs serious and sensitive consideration.
He says his decision also comes after considering the balance of national security and the right to a fair trial where matters of security do not stand in the way of justice.
The Vice President’s case has dragged following uncertainties surrounding the sensitivity of the requested documents which the MDF is reported to be reluctant to release on security reasons alleged to be connecting Chilima with the Malawian, United Kingdom-based businessman, Zuneth Sattar
