Chakwera To Launch MERP

His Excellency the State President, Lazarus Macarthy Chakwera will on Thursday preside over the launching ceremony of the Malawi Education Reform Programme at Chikololere Primary School in Golomoti, Dedza District.

According to the Malawi Government program through the Ministry of Education under the Malawi Education Reform Program (MERP) 10 900 cost-effective classrooms and 1000 sanitation blocks in 3,355 public primary schools will be constructed across the country.

The programme is among others aimed at reducing pupil-teacher ration which came about in the backdrop of introducing the free primary school at the dawn of democracy in Malawi.

In his Hi-5 campaign strategy during the 2020 presidential elections campaign, Chakwera committed to ensuring that the standards in public learning institutions meet the requirements in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
