Afrobarometer Report Reveals Failure On Economic Governance
Few days after World Bank report showed that most Malawians are depressed, the Afrobarometer Round 9 survey report has revealed overwhelming popular dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the economy.
A clear indicator in expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the economy battered nearly nine out of 10 Malawians (89%) saying the country is heading in the wrong direction.
The report further states that most Malawians have expressed pessimism about the country’s direction and few are optimistic that things will get better anytime soon.
“As majorities of citizens continue to experience shortages of basic life necessities, economic concerns take centre stage as their top priority for government action,” reads part of the report.
The report, dated March 8, 2024 is produced by the Centre for Social Research and interviewed a nationally representative sample of 1,200 Malawian adults in April 2022.
