Chakwera Declares 23 Districts Disaster Areas

President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has declared 23 of Malawi’s 28 districts disaster areas while emphasizing the importance of unity in times of crisis.

In his state of Nation Address on Saturday evening Chakwera assured the nation that the government is taking necessary steps to provide relief and support to those affected by the disasters, including floods and food shortages.

President Chakwera then urged citizens to come together and support one another during these difficult times, emphasizing the need for solidarity and compassion while calling for transparency and accountability in the distribution of aid, ensuring that it reaches those who need it the most.

“This declaration of disaster areas will enable the government to access additional resources and support to assist the affected communities, i promised to work tirelessly to address the challenges facing the country and rebuild resilience in the face of future disasters,” Chakwera said.
