MCP VEEP, Secretary General Position Attracts More Aspirants
As the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) convention is quickly approaching, the excitement in the air is palpable.
This year’s convention is set to be the hottest in the history of the political organization, with a record-breaking number of candidates vying for leadership positions.
Meanwhile, the eyes of the party members are glued to the Vice Presidential race, with seven individuals throwing their hats into the ring for the coveted spot, each candidate bringing his or her own unique strengths and experiences to the table, making it a tough decision for the delegates to choose who would best lead the party.
According to the information made available to this publication: Catherine Gotani Hara, Moses Kunkuyu, Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma, Vitumbiko Mumba, Brown Mpinganjira, Dean Lungu and Ahmed Dasu are notable names on the list of candidates vying for the post of party vice president.
The competition didn’t stop there because the battle for the Secretary General position is also just as heated, with five candidates fighting tooth and nail for the opportunity to steer the party in their desired directions.
Eisenhower Mkaka, Simplex Chithyola Banda, Albert Mbawala, Chris Chaima Banda and and Alex Major have intensified efforts aimed at raising their candidature for the party’s Chief Executive Officer’s post.
However the tension among the members was palpable, as each candidate substantiating their cases for why they were the best fit for the position though MCP Spokesperson Eziekel Ching’oma told us that, currently the party has no official list for those vying for positions.
“We are yet to come up with nomination forms having instituted a steering committee to look into such issues, as of now whatever gets your are just social media chats,” said Ching’oma.
With the convention drawing closer at a venue to be announced but in the northern region of the country, the campaigns of the candidates gradually gets more intense with secret rallies held, declarations and promises made to the party faithfuls.
There’s no doubt, the energy in the convention hall will be electrifying, with the delegates eagerly awaiting for the moment when they will cast their votes for the future of the party.
Finally, when the day of the convention arrive the delegates will fill the convention hall, their hearts pounding with anticipation as the candidates sit nervously on the stage, waiting for their names to be called and their fate to be decided.
Several political commentators have predicted that the MCP convention will be the hottest, a turning point in the party rebuilding exercise for a strong leadership to tackle some challenges ahead and possibly lead the country to prosperity.
