Mzuzu-North Residents Urges Njikho To Pursue Parliamentary Role Again

In the bustling Mzuzu City, a stir of excitement brewed among the residents of Luwinga, Technical, Botanic, Zolozolo and Chiputula as they made a monumental decision ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections transcending political divides, came together in a rare show of unity and solidarity.

Their choice was made clear on Saturday when they recalled the former UTM Regional governor, Leonard Njikho, a beloved figure known for his unwavering dedication to public service to reconsider contesting in next year’s parliamentary elections.

The decision to rally behind Njikho who once served as the City parliamentarian was not taken lightly, signalled a desire for a good leader in the newly demarcated Mzuzu City-North Constituency who they say truly understands the aspirations and challenges of the diverse population.

This was evident when people from all walks of life, belonging to different political parties, set aside their party affiliations and joined hands to support the aspirant maintaining the main bridge at Slaughter connecting the area to the main road going to Mzuzu Central Hospital, a common goal transcending individual ideologies.

Several leaders from the area who granted this reporter interviews says, as the days passed the momentum grows, while the Mzuzu City-North finds itself swept up in a wave of hope and optimism, streets buzzed with discussions, debates, and a shared sense of purpose.

Senior Block Leader, Mchere hailed the former UTM Regional Governor, humbled by the overwhelming support from the people of Zolozolo West-Ward whom he says has emerged as a unifying figure, a beacon of hope in challenging times.

“In the lead-up to the elections, the area brimmed with energy and enthusiasm, chants of unity, and a sense of collective agency permeated the air. The people of Mzuzu City North we have spoken having chosen to stand together, to forge a path towards a future guided by collaboration and mutual respect,” said Block Leader, Mchere.

In his remarks, Councillor for Zolozolo West-Ward, Mbale said as the election time draws near, the newly demarcated Mzuzu City-North Constituency will hold its breath in anticipation, and when the results will be announced, a wave of jubilation will sweep through the streets with Njikho emerging victorious, that will be a testament to the power of our unity of purpose.

“Mzuzu City North will stand as a shining example for what will be achieved when people set aside their differences like this and come together for the greater good. The recall of the former parliamentarian is not just a political decision – it is a reaffirmation of Zolozolo West-Ward’s collective spirit, a declaration of its unwavering commitment to progress and unity,” emphasized the Councillor.

While pledging to work with people regardless of their political affiliations, Njikho made public his availability aimed to provide service as the massager of Mzuzu City North Constituency if elected into the House of Assembly in September next year.

“It is the voice of the people that is my command, representing them in Parliament will be the best service that I pledge my availability for and I will work tirelessly to ensure their fair share of the National cake,” Njikho said.

Njiko became popular as member of parliament for Mzuzu City having initiated the construction of the solar lightened, dual carriage road in the city’s Central Business District, access to portable water in various townships and the construction of classroom blocks in most primary and secondary schools.
