MCP Opens Nomination Forms Collection Period
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has officially opened the collection of nomination forms for individuals interested in contesting for various positions within the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Making an announcement the Convention Chairperson, Kezzie Msukwa, stated that preparations for the upcoming elective indaba, scheduled to take place from the 6th to 8th of August are currently at an advanced stage.
“The party’s decision to open up the nomination process demonstrates its commitment to intra-party democracy and transparency,” said Msukwa.
He further said that MCP being the oldest political party, is gearing up for a significant leadership change as various positions within the party’s NEC are up for grabs.
However, concerns have been raised by Mzuzu University political commentator Chrispin Mphande regarding the nomination fees set by the party who cautioned the MCP against setting exorbitant fees that could potentially deter individuals from contesting for positions within the NEC.
“It is feared that high nomination fees may limit the pool of candidates and hinder the party’s efforts to promote inclusivity and diversity within its leadership,” said Mphande.
However, in response to these concerns, the MCP conversation Chairperson has assured all interested individuals that the nomination fees will be reasonable and affordable to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to participate in the party’s internal democratic processes.
As the Party continues to prepare for its upcoming elective conversion, all eyes are on its navigating the delicate balance between promoting intra-party democracy and ensuring that the nomination process is accessible to all interested candidates.
