Nyusi Decries Reduced Trade Levels Between Malawi And Mozambique
Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has expressed concern over the declining trade levels between Malawi and Mozambique, urging both nations to explore opportunities to revitalize their economic partnership.
Speaking during a state visit to Malawi, President Nyusi noted that the current trade volumes between the two countries are below expectations, considering their historical ties and geographical proximity.
“It is disappointing to see that our trade levels have decreased in recent years,” President Nyusi said. “We must work together to identify the bottlenecks and find solutions to boost our economic cooperation.”
President Nyusi emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral trade relations, citing the potential for increased economic growth, job creation, and improved livelihoods for citizens of both nations.
Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera welcomed President Nyusi’s sentiments, acknowledging the need to revitalize trade between the two countries.
“We share a common vision to promote economic integration and cooperation in our region,” President Chakwera said. “We will work together to address the challenges hindering our trade relations and explore new opportunities for mutual benefit.”
The two leaders agreed to establish a joint trade committee to explore ways to increase trade volumes, improve infrastructure connectivity, and enhance economic cooperation.
The state visit by President Nyusi aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and foster economic cooperation between Malawi and Mozambique, with a focus on trade, agriculture, energy, and transportation.
