Police Conduct Raid on Illegal Pharmacy Operations

On Wednesday, Lilongwe Police carried out a targeted operation at Mpanipani location in Lilongwe Main Market, resulting in the seizure of assorted medical products and equipment valued at millions of kwacha.

Two individuals, Hardson Malenga (65) and his daughter Reginna Stander (31), were arrested for allegedly possessing and selling medical drugs without a permit.

According to the Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer Hastings Chigalu the operation aimed to combat criminal activities in the city seized products found in three separate shops, with some suspected to have been sourced from public hospitals. Notably, some expired drugs dated back to 2018.

The authorities are awaiting expert assessment from the Pharmacy, Medicines and Regulatory Authority (PMRA) to determine the authenticity and safety of the seized products.

The suspects, residents of Chilinde Village, Traditional Authority Tsabango, Lilongwe, will face charges in court, including: Possession and sale of medical products without a license and operating an unlicensed pharmacy business

The operation demonstrates the police’s commitment to combating illegal activities and ensuring public safety.
