President Chakwera to Attend Africa-China Cooperation Forum in Beijing
President Lazarus Chakwera is set to attend the fourth Forum on Africa-China Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, China, on September 4-5, 2024. The forum will bring together heads of state and government from Africa and China to adopt the 2025-2027 Beijing FOCAC Plan of Action.
The plan will outline the strategic direction for China-Africa cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, infrastructure development, and people-to-people exchanges, for the next three years.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs President Chakwera’s attendance at the forum demonstrates Malawi’s commitment to strengthening its bilateral relations with China and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
“The FOCAC forum provides a platform for African countries to engage with China on issues of economic development, trade, and investment, and to explore opportunities for cooperation and collaboration.
“During the forum, President Chakwera is expected to hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other African leaders, discussing ways to deepen cooperation and address common challenges facing the two regions,” reads part of the statement.
It further states that the adoption of the 2025-2027 Beijing FOCAC Plan of Action is expected to mark a significant milestone in Africa-China relations, shaping the future of cooperation between the two regions for years to come.
President Chakwera’s delegation is expected to include senior government officials and business leaders, who will explore opportunities for investment and trade between Malawi and China.
The forum is expected to conclude with the adoption of the plan and a communiqué outlining the key outcomes and commitments of the participating countries.
