Women Urged to Lead in Socioeconomic Growth
Women have been urged to be more vigilant in all spheres of socioeconomic growth to help the country quickly attain Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Speaker of the National Assembly and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) 1st Deputy President, Catherine Gotani Hara, emphasized that despite social and family burdens, only families with solid foundations can actively participate in socioeconomic endeavors.
Gotani Hara made these remarks on Friday during the first-ever Church of Central Africa Presbyterian Synod of Livingstonia women’s prayers in Mzuzu.
“Active participation of women in socioeconomic growth plays a significant role by, among other things, reducing gender-based violence and enhancing networking and independence,” said Gotani Hara.
She also encouraged women to take a pivotal role in the country’s politics to ensure Malawi has a pool of God-fearing leaders. She highlighted the importance of discussing and sharing best practices to develop livelihoods and enhance Christian values.
Moderator for Mzuzu Presbytery, Reverend Timothy Nyirenda, encouraged women to continue praying for one another to foster family and national socioeconomic growth.
“The Synod finds it imperative to provide space for women to commit families, church, and state in prayers, which also offers a networking platform,” said Reverend Nyirenda.
The inaugural women’s prayers, which started with a solidarity march in Mzuzu City streets will now be an annual event, attracted women guilds from the Synod’s three presbyteries: Mzuzu City, Mzuzu, and Ekwendeni.
