CHAKWERA APPOINTS COMMISSION TO INVESTIGATE CHILIMA’S FATAL PLANE CRASH


President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has established a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the tragic plane crash at Nthungwa in Nkhatabay district, which resulted in the loss of former Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima and eight others.
 
The newly appointed commission will be headed by Justice Jabbar Alide and comprise esteemed members, including: Religious Leaders, Monsinor Patrick Thawale, Pastor Toney Nyirenda, Bishop Mary Nkosi, Traditional Leaders, Inkosi yamakosi Mbelwa 5th, Senior Chief Makwangwala

Experts and Professionals: Dr Sunduzwayo Madise, Mr Justin Mkandawire, Brigadier Cosgrove Mituka (Retired), Mrs Emma Kaliya, Mr Sylvester Namiwa, Mr Dixie Kwatani

From the academics: Professor Nyengo Mkandawire, Legal Experts: Mr Allan Chinula SC and other Members; Mrs Esther Chioko, Mrs Nimia Kambiri Mzembe, Mrs Lidia Chiotha, Dr Ruth Mwandira, and Mrs Mirriam Wemba
 
According to the State House statement signed by Colleen Zamba, the commission’s primary objective is to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident and address related matters as outlined in the terms of reference.
 
The appointments take immediate effect, with members scheduled to take their oath of office on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, expected to submit a comprehensive report with findings and recommendations to President Chakwera by November 30, 2024.
