MCP UK Diaspora Region Elects Felix Banda its New Director
Banda, a lawyer by profession, secured 59% of the votes, succeeding Mrs Thoko Paterson as the fifth Director of the region.
Allan Mandindi Banda, one of the people who played a key role during the initial official setting up of the network and inaugural Director of the UK chapter, extended congratulatory best wishes to Felix Banda on his victory, expressing confidence in his leadership abilities.
“We have had great diversity in leadership, and I am confident Mr. Felix Banda will do a great job. We need to keep championing diaspora engagement in helping Malawi advance,” Mandindi Banda said.
In his acceptance speech, Felix Banda thanked the Network for entrusting him with the role and promised to convene a meeting to gather input on moving forward.
He has since assured the diaspora community that he will serve as a conduit for their concerns, suggestions, and grievances to the MCP Leadership in Malawi.
Banda highlighted his long-standing commitment to the MCP, dating back to 1993 when he campaigned for the party during the multiparty dispensation.
“When I was at Chancellor College, I served in the MCP Chancol Wing alongside the current speaker of Parliament, Hon. Catherine Gotani Hara. We held an MCP Dinner Dance for the Former Inspector General of Police , the Late Mac William Lunguzi a few months before he sadly, passed away in that fatal road accident,” he recalled.
He mentioned his experience working with various MCP Presidents, including Dr. Kamuzu Banda, Hon. Gwanda Chakuamba, Hon. JZU Tembo, and Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
The MCP UK diaspora region’s election demonstrates the party’s commitment to democratic processes and engagement with its global membership.
