Negligence, Alarm Raised Murder Plot

Journalist Draxon Maloya

A casual conversation at a local eatery in Mzuzu’s Central Business District turned into a chilling revelation of a planned murder.

Two men discussed a hit job targeting someone believed to be involved in an affair with one of their wives.

The hired assassin was promised a hefty K2 million payout to carry out the assassination on Sunday night in Mpherembe, Mzimba district.

Their conversation sent chills down my spine: “I feel pain, bro. I am spending a fortune on this woman… Offloading salt from a train isn’t easy. Kill him tonight.”

I immediately bolted,, left my food to alert one of the police detectives I knew, who was nearby in a pub. However, he seemed unconvinced by my story, leaving me frustrated.

To my disappointment,  touched by that deeper sense of humanity, the detective followed me but only to be a spectator, watching me finishing my lunch soup accompanied by a full glassed cold water. The suspects left the eatery earlier before I finished my food.

Honestly i felt bad, this incident highlights the darkness lurking beneath our society’s surface, a call to action to be vigilant and combat violence and hatred.

We still lag behind when it comes to collaborating with law enforcement to create a safer community where everyone can live without fear of harm. Despite the officer’s inaction, i still believe it’s our responsibility to ensure such senseless violence is not tolerated and perpetrators face justice.

We must drive change, stand against hatred and violence, striving for a brighter future.

The outcome of the assassination plot remains unknown, as police have not reported any midnight killing in Mpherembe in Mzimba district.
