North Journalists Celebrate Mother’s Day with Hospital Visit
Journalists in Malawi’s northern region marked Mother’s Day by visiting the antenatal and postnatal wards of Mzuzu Urban Health Centre, bringing joy and support to new and expectant mothers.
Feston Malekezo, Chairperson of the Nyika Media Club, emphasized the importance of closer collaboration with various partners and community engagement.
“Journalism is not just about writing stories; we also engage in humanitarian efforts where needed,” said Malekezo.
Towera Kasanga Gondwe, Nursing Officer in the labour ward, appreciated the gesture. “Some women come from humble backgrounds and lack basic necessities like clothing and baby supplies. This visit will go a long way in providing support.”
Masita Jere, Community Development Manager for Partners for the North, praised the collaborative effort.
“Our partnership with the media facilitated this meaningful visit to Mzuzu City health facility,” Jere said.
Ruth Longwe, a new mother, commended the initiative. “Thank you, Nyika Media Club and partners, for your kindness. May you continue making a positive impact.”
Apart from Partners for the North, Nyika Properties and Awalanje Investment Construction and Civil Engineering Company supported the initiative in different ways.
Malawi celebrates Mother’s Day on October 15th, coinciding with the International Day of Rural Women, recognizing the vital role rural mothers play in fighting poverty and supporting their families.
