Women Empowerment Through Art: A Cross-Continental Success Story

Collabo2Succeed

Salford, UK – A pioneering initiative, born in Lagos, Nigeria, has found a new home in Salford, empowering local women through visual arts and business enterprise.

Led by Collabo2Succeed, the project provides opportunities for women, especially those marginalized in the industry, to showcase artwork and develop entrepreneurial skills.

Inspired by Lagos’ local female artists, the concept was adapted for Salford over 12 months. Workshops began in summer at Langworthy Cornerstone, culminating in an October 2023 exhibition.

‘Seven pieces sold, with proceeds going directly to the artists. Further workshops in January and February 2024 drew significant local interest, including from the University of Salford’s Art Department,”  said one trainee.

Students sought practical experience outside traditional industry pathways. The project aims to encourage women to enter visual arts and enterprise sectors, providing skills, knowledge, and behavioral changes for success.

Qualified trainers led structured programs, covering art sessions and business enterprise workshops with participants learning to appreciate artistic skills, understand resources, and develop financial planning and marketing strategies.

Another component is to enhance friendships, creativity flourished, and confidence grew. The program concluded with a celebratory session, awarding certificates and reflecting on achievements.

Ongoing engagement includes independent Saturday workshops and social media connections. Several artists continue working on projects and exhibitions, contributing to the local arts scene.

A March 2025 exhibition at the University of Salford’s Adelphi Building Art Space will showcase artwork from October 2024 workshops, alongside international female artwork from Lagos.

This cross-continental collaboration demonstrates the power of empowering women through art.
