Former Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Walter Nyamilandu has hailed the Confederation of African Football Association (COSAFA)’s stunning turnaround as a record-breaking seven teams from the region qualify for the continent’s greatest soccer festival, (AFCON) 2025 in Morocco.

Nyamilandu, a CAF and COSAFA Executive Member, beamed with pride, “This remarkable achievement showcases the growth of football in our region. The days of Western and Northern dominance are behind us – the gap has been bridged!”

He believes COSAFA teams can now realistically aim for: World Cup qualification and AFCON triumph.

“The future is bright! Our region’s football is on the rise, and I’m honoured to be part of this journey,” Nyamilandu exclaimed further stating that seven teams qualifying for AFCON 2025 is a record-breaking achievement.

“COSAFA teams bridge gap with Western and Northern Africa, increased chances for World Cup qualification and AFCON success. Get ready for a thrilling AFCON 2025 as COSAFA teams make history” he added.
