FAM Dangles K1.2 Billion For Youth Football Development

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has committed K1.2 billion to youth football development, focusing on international competition participation and stakeholder capacity building.

This significant investment demonstrates FAM’s strategic emphasis on nurturing young football talent and creating pathways for future national team players.

FAM 2nd Vice President Lameck Khonje announced the commitment in Mzuzu during the First Capital Bank tournament.

“This investment will be channelled towards organizing tournaments and capacity building for different stakeholders in youth football,” Khonje explained.

Twikale Chirwa, Head of Marketing at First Capital Bank, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting youth football.

“The First Capital Bank tournament has a proven track record of producing national talent, with players like Patrick Mwaungulu and Peter Banda emerging from the league,” Chirwa said.

Tiyenkhu Chavula, National Youth Football Association Chairperson, praised the tournament’s district and regional selection format, anticipating potential progression to the Super League.

The tournament saw North Select emerge as champions with 7 points, followed by South Select with 5 points. Central Select teams finished third and fourth with the winners receiving K1.5 million prize, while the runners-up obtained K1 million, and third-place finishers were awarded K600,000.
