More Controversies In Mozambican Election Results

The Constitutional Court sitting in Maputo, Mozambique, has controversially reaffirmed that Daniel Chapo of the ruling FRELIMO party won the election after securing more than 65 percent of the votes.

This court ruling revises down the National Election Commission’s results in the days after the polls, which had Chapo won with 71 percent of the vote.

Many observers have described the Mozambican election as a shame, lacking the credibility leading to widespread violence.

Currently, Mozambique is gripped by unrest as violent protests have erupted, leaving the nation in a state of chaos. Protesters have taken to the streets, targeting public transportation and forcing passengers off buses before setting them ablaze.

The shocking scenes of burning vehicles continues sending waves of fear and uncertainty across the country and its neighbours.

Meanwhile, the Mozambican government has requested for an immediate Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) security assistance to help containing the violent activities that have led to some national flee the country to seek refuge in neighbouring countries.
