CAF Boosts CHAN Prize Money: Winners to Receive $3.5 Million
The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in the prize money for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) slayed for Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024.
The winner’s prize money has been increased by 75% to $3.5 million, while the total prize money for the tournament has been boosted by 32% to $10.4 million.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his excitement about the upcoming tournament, stating that the increased prize money is part of CAF’s strategy to invest in African football and make it more appealing to fans, sponsors, and stakeholders worldwide .
The CHAN Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024 is scheduled to take place from February 1 to 28, 2025 with a total of 19 countries participating in the tournament, of which 17 countries already qualified, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Morocco, and Nigeria.
Two additional countries will join the tournament after qualifying from the remaining matches.
This is a significant development to African football, has increased in prize money for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winners to $7 million in 2024.
