Chakwera Leaves For Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit
President of Malawi Dr Lazarus Lazarus Chakwera leaves the country today for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to attend the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit.
The summit, scheduled for January 27-28, aims to expand access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity to 300 million people in Africa by 2030.
Chakwera joins 12 other African heads of state, to advance the Mission 300 initiative.
This summit is convened by the World Bank and African Development Fund, with the goal of scaling energy access transition pursuant to the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the summit, “President Chakwera will preside over a $300 million compact approved by the World Bank to support Malawi’s efforts to achieve universal energy access by 2030”.
Notably, electricity access in Malawi has increased from 9% to 25% since 2020.
