The Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has scheduled January 27, 2025, to deliver its ruling on the criminal case against the Democratic Progressive Party’s Director of Youth, Norman Chisale, former aide to ex-President Peter Mutharika.

Chisale is accused of impersonating a person named in a certificate to secure recruitment into the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) as a soldier.

Chisale faces three charges: Impersonation, contrary to Section 391 as read with Section 358 of the Penal Code; Presenting False Information, contrary to Section 122 of the Penal Code; and Intimidation, contrary to Section 88 of the Penal Code.

This case is one of several legal battles Chisale has faced since the change in government in 2020.

As a key figure in former President Mutharika’s inner circle, Chisale’s cases have attracted widespread public and media attention due to his high-profile status and the nature of the allegations.

Chisale’s property seizure case is also ongoing, with the High Court in Blantyre set to hear two applications from the defence on February 25, 2025.

The state is seeking to permanently seize Chisale’s assets, which were acquired suspectedly through dubious means.
