Kenyan President William Ruto has addressed his newfound nickname, “Kasongo,” which has gained significant traction on social media.

Speaking at a funeral on Friday, Ruto took the nickname in stride, saying, “Some people are calling me ‘Kasongo’ on social media, you’re free to call me whatever name I don’t mind.”

He also referenced another nickname, “Zachaeus,” which he deemed “not a bad name” given his government’s role in tax collection.

Ruto’s light-hearted approach to the nicknames reflects his reputation as a skilled communicator. However, he also used the opportunity to make a more serious appeal, calling on all political leaders to join forces in driving Kenya’s economic growth and development.

The nickname “Kasongo” has become a popular topic of discussion on social media, with some attributing it to Ruto’s perceived cleverness or cunning nature.

While its impact on the president’s public image remains to be seen, it’s clear that “Kasongo” has become an integral part of Kenyan popular culture.
