Chakwera Advocates Youth Inclusion In Economic Initiatives

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has underscored the importance of including youths in various sectors of the economy citing their crucial role in economic development.

By engaging the youth in a Townhall meeting the Malawi leader said to achieve this, his administration is implementing several initiatives in line with Malawi Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The President said education still remains a primary focus, with efforts to ensure youths have access to quality education, adding this will include constructing additional classrooms and schools to provide conducive teaching and learning environment while protecting them from adverse weather conditions.

Furthermore, Chakwera committed to recruit additional teachers, equipping learning institutions with necessary learning materials in order to address resource scarcity.

“My administration is providing electricity to rural areas through the Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (MAREP), recognizing its significance for youth,” said Chakwera “Plans are also underway to construct technical colleges in every district, prioritizing the arts and ensuring the creative industry is fully utilized”.

On supporting youth with disabled he stressed on reviving the duties and functions of the Malawi Council of Disability Affairs (MACODA) to ensure active engagement of youth with physical challenges in all affairs.

However, Chakwera cautioned those who discriminate against youth with disabilities strong warning that they will face wrath of the law, urging the Ministry of Gender to handle such matters with utmost seriousness.
