The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has seized 2.4 tons of expired products from Sana Cash & Carry in Limbe, Blantyre.

This massive haul includes 1,410 kilograms of rice, one ton of Fanta drinks (passion, orange, and pineapple flavors), and 27 pieces of Dettol Wipes.

According to MBS spokesperson Monica Khombe, the seizure was made during a market inspection exercise conducted on Tuesday.

“The expired goods are currently pending disposal highlighting the challenges in maintaining product freshness and safety standards,” said Khombe.

The seizure of expired goods from Sana Cash & Carry is not an isolated incident. Recently, the MBS shut down several Sana shops across Malawi due to poor hygiene and the sale of expired products underscoring the need for retailers to prioritize product safety and freshness to protect consumer health and well-being.
