Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Sidik Mia has commended King Charles III’s government for inviting her to the water and climate reception at Buckingham Palace.

The invitation acknowledges Malawi’s strides in enhancing access to water and sanitation.

Mia praised WaterAid UK for their support, emphasizing that this achievement is a result of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s unwavering commitment and visionary leadership.

She highlighted the discussions held at the Palace, focusing on strategies to ensure future water security amidst climate change threats.

“At the Palace, we discussed strategies to ensure future water security amidst the threats of climate change. We unanimously agreed at the meeting that water security is the fundamental component that will enable the delivery of all other Sustainable Development Goals,” Mia said.

The Minister also revealed that participants have agreed to collaborate in developing scalable solutions to address global water crises.

“Malawi’s progress in water and sanitation is a significant step towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and this recognition at Buckingham Palace underscores the country’s commitment to improving the lives of its citizens,” she added.

Prior to meeting King Charles III, Mia participated in a Ministerial Roundtable discussion on tackling water security across the development nexus which unanimously agreed on the fundamental role of water security in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
