Vice President Usi Signals Confidence in Chakwera Partnership

Vice President Dr. Michael Usi has expressed strong confidence in President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera’s leadership, indicating a likely continuation of their political partnership.
Dr. Usi, known for his “Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu” initiative, brings a distinctive blend of artistic and political experience to his role. He has previously served as Minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Culture, as well as Minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change.
Upon his arrival in Mzuzu on Tuesday, Dr. Usi cautioned against deceptive political figures, drawing a parallel to the biblical story of Esau and Jacob. He urged citizens to scrutinize presidential candidates beyond their rhetoric, emphasizing the importance of actions, particularly during the nation’s current economic challenges.

“Look at some presidential candidates, claiming to be holy, saying, ‘the government is ours, we won’t change!’ No one should deceive anyone. Scrutinize presidential aspirants beyond their words; actions matter more, especially at this time when we are economically struggling,” Dr. Usi stated.
These remarks suggest the current administration is unlikely to make significant changes, including replacing Dr. Usi as Vice President, thereby addressing speculation about the upcoming September 16th General Elections.

Dr. Usi also encouraged citizens to remain optimistic, reminding them that Malawi belongs to its people and that positive change is achievable. He stressed that many of the nation’s problems are man-made and can be resolved through collective effort and determination.
He further advised political leaders to exercise caution when distributing party regalia, noting that some individuals may provide false support without casting actual votes.
Dr. Usi’s appointment as Vice President in June 2020 has solidified his position, and his recent statements reinforce the expectation that he will serve as President Chakwera’s running mate, indicating a strong alliance between the two leaders.
