Four Presidential Candidates Pick Up Nomination Papers for Elections

President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and three other aspiring candidates have collected their presidential nomination papers from the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) ahead of the September 16 general elections.

According to Sangwani Mwafulirwa, MEC spokesperson, the other candidates who have collected nomination papers by Thursday are; Adil James Chilungo, an independent candidate, Kondwani Nankhumwa of the People’s Development Party, and Millward Tobias, another independent candidate.

To be eligible to contest in the presidential elections, candidates are required to deposit K10 million before being issued with nomination forms.

This marks a significant step in the electoral process, as these candidates prepare to vie for the presidency in the upcoming general elections, with more candidates expected to join the race.
