MPI Report Finds Majority Malawians In Dimensional Poverty
The second Malawi’s multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) report has established that more than 70 percent of female-headed families in the country are poor as compared to 53 percent for male-headed households.
The MPI report which has been issued with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has also revealed that 58 percent of Malawians are multidimensional poor.
Speaking to the media soon after launching the report on Thursday Finance Minister Sosten Gwengwe indicated that the report provides alternatives to government and it’s development partners on how to address the poverty incidences in the country.
“The survey looks beyond monetized aspect of measuring poverty having used different methodologies in establishing the results which is good for government and other stakeholders when approaching poverty incidences,” Gwengwe said.
