ZANU-PF Expels Its UK Based Loyalists
The Zimbabwean ruling party, ZANU-PF, has expelled four prominent members suspected of joining the Socialist Workers Party of Britain.
The decision was made after a disciplinary hearing, which unanimously endorsed the expulsion of Salome Eric, John Mason, Check P Kamdewere, and Jayson Musindo in their absence.
According to Lazarus Nyagumbo, UK District Commissariat Secretary, the expulsion is based on the ZANU-PF Constitution 2022, Article 3, Clause 20, which states that membership is lost when a member joins another party. Nyagumbo emphasized that the decision upholds constitutionalism and transparency.
The expelled members are no longer required to represent ZANU-PF in any capacity, although they are welcome to remain as ordinary non-member supporters and friends.
Efforts to seek views of the three expelled ZANU-PF members proved futile but one of them who did not want his identity to be disclosed confirmed having received the expulsion letter stating that he is consulting.
“Its laughable, but let me consult first before I give you accurate details,” he said.
In related news, ZANU-PF has invited all UK diaspora districts to its National Conference in Bulawayo slated for this month, with the exact date to be announced soon.
The ZANU-PF has a history of internal power struggles and splits, dating back to its formation in 1963, though has maintained its grip on power since Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980.
